The coconut chair was first introduced in 1955 by one of the founders of the American Modernism design movement, George Nelson. The innovative and striking design of the Coconut Chair changed the look and feel of American furniture at the time. Nelson envisioned and purposely designed the shallow sides and inviting curves of this chair to provide comfortable lounge seating. The Coconut chair is padded with a thick, one-piece foam rubber cushion, which is then upholstered in quality black leather. The leather upholstery is molded into the simple, sturdy plastic shell. The corner, which forms the backrest, is slightly longer than the other two sides, which helps increases the overall comfort level of the chair. The chair is fastened to a bent-steel, three-legged base. The geometric shape of the Coconut chair provides clean lines and a modern minimalist appeal. The appearance and design of this chair provide the perfect accent to any modern home or office space.
